sundowning is a VR film about alzheimer’s disease

Sundowning is a symptom of Alzheimer’s disease where a sufferer’s confusion becomes more intense at dusk. This film explores what it is like to experience sundowning from a first person perspective.

Initiated by sound artist Angela McArthur, Sundowning was directed by cinematographer Shivani Hassard. As dramaturg and movement choreographer for the 360-degree filming, I worked with Angela and Shivani to develop the script and movement. Actor and set movement were designed to support the narrative arc and sound interaction in collaboration with the cast.

Angela, Shivani and I collaborated to design novel ways of filming Sundowning to experiment with the sense of space available in VR viewing.
